Congratulations new District Eagle Scouts
Kevin Austin Schnitzer age 18, son of Brian and Jill Schnitzer of Lawrenceville, Georgia has earned the rank of Eagle Scout and was awarded the Eagle Scout Rank on September 21, 2019. Kevin is a member of Troop 575 chartered by McKendree United Methodist Church and is a Senior at Collins Hill High School.
Kevin’s Eagle Project consisted of building 4 Duck Nesting Boxes for Mill Creek Nature Center. These are like large bird houses that ducks use to build their nests and lay their eggs. They are placed near the water's edge and after the ducklings hatch, when they are old enough they leave the duck box and go straight to the water.
Kevin has earned 30 merit badges and has served in leadership positions as Troop Guide.
Alejandro Martinez age 16, son of Orlando Martinez of Dacula, Georgia has earned the rank of Eagle Scout and was awarded the Eagle Scout Rank on April 27, 2019. Alejandro is a member of Troop 597 chartered by Hamilton Mill United Methodist Church and is a Sophomore at Mill Creek High School.
Alejandro’s Eagle Project consisted of clearing mulch and replacing it with gravel in a utilities area at Hamilton Mill United Methodist Church to make maintenance and access easier and to preserve existing equipment (air conditioning and electrical panels) in the area.
Alejandro has earned 27 merit badges and has served in leadership positions as Senior Patrol Leader, Quartermaster, Den Chief, and Chaplain’s Aide. Alejandro also completed National Youth Leadership Training.
Joshua C. Barron age 18, son of Sean and Teresa Barron of Suwanee, Georgia has earned the rank of Eagle Scout and was awarded the Eagle Scout Rank on Apr 21, 2018. Joshua is a member of Troop 1534 chartered by Sugar Hill United Methodist Church and is a Senior at North Gwinnett High School.
For his Eagle Project Joshua built three benches and installed wooden 4x4's with a sun shade on the playground at Cedar Hill Elementary School in Lawrenceville, to provide comfort and shade to the teachers there. Joshua was inspired to give back to teachers in our community, as his mom has been a hardworking Gwinnett County Teacher for almost 20 years.
Joshua has earned 29 merit badges and served his troop as Senior Patrol Leader, Assistant Senior Patrol Leader, OA Rep, and Junior Assistant Scoutmaster. Joshua has staffed Northeast Georgia Council's National Youth Leadership Training course the last 4 years and has served one year on camp staff at Camp Rainey Mountain. He will be attending The University of Georgia in the fall to dual major in Music Education and Mechanical Engineering and will be marching in the Red Coat Marching Band.
Bristol Max Briggs age 17, son of Pam and Bill Briggs, of Suwanee, Georgia has earned the rank of Eagle Scout and was awarded the Eagle Scout Rank on Jul 21, 2018. Bristol is a member of Troop 513 and is a Senior at Grand River Academy.
Bristol’s Eagle Project was to build raised garden beds with a walk-through pathway at Grand River Academy (GRA), where he attends boarding school just outside of Cleveland, Ohio. The garden has multiple uses on campus in addition to making the area around the campus more aesthetically pleasing. It will provide a small amount of fresh produce for use in the dining facility and will be used by the Science Department to teach gardening with hands on learning for students at GRA and others from the local community.
Bristol has earned 30 merit badges and has served his troop as Patrol Leader, Instructor, and Librarian. Bristol’s journey to the rank of Eagle Scout has taught him many life lessons. He says that with every merit badge earned he gained more skills to use in his daily life from First aid to cooking. Bristol finds that he uses his leadership skills every day at Grand River Academy, where he is attending boarding school for his senior year of High School preparing for College, and pursuing his interests of Psychology, Social Studies, and things related to the human brain. He is a student Ambassador at GRA and represents the school at local functions, banquets, and tours, helping new students get acquainted and settled in at the school. This position requires a great deal of responsibility and leadership as he represents GRA and the school as a whole.
